A village of culture and a place to commemorate the legacy of the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founding Father of the UAE, in recognition of his crucial role in preserving and promoting UAE rich heritage encapsulated by his saying “A nation without a past is a nation without a present or a future”.
The first phase of the project includes a fort wall of 1,240 m long embracing a square site of 96,000 sq.m site located south of Abu Dhabi – Al Ain highway. Every year, the site provides temporary exhibition spaces to be erected considering the themes of the heritage festival and the number of national and international participants.
The wall design is inspired by the UAE traditional fort architecture; a gate is located on each side of the walls adorned with towers in key places especially at the corners. While the wall has a functional demarcation role of the site, within its thickness houses all support facilities, storage areas, administrative spaces and circulation cores that lead to the roofs from which the whole site could be seen. On the northern side, the gate leads to a camel racetrack another important aspect of the Gulf culture.
