An important conservation building of the first airport in Bahrain; an initiative aims to conserve early modern Bahraini architecture in addition to the old tradition buildings of the 18th & 19th centuries. The project aims to retain the building to its original form and to be a testimony to the progress of Bahrain. It will stands side by side to the present airport and the new airport under construction set for an opening in 2019.
With a total area of 4,000 sq.m; the approach intends to reinforce the building structure, demolish all disfigurements and new additions and convert the interior for VIP and dignitaries passengers. It will operate as a small terminal in terms of security control, language screening but with the luxury of speedy special services, exclusive environment and ability to have business meetings. The project also provides a master plan for the surrounding areas to enhance the access to the building focusing on the main entrance and its intersecting elevation treatment. Parking and circulation network are arranged to enhance the visibility of this interesting early 1960 building. History is not only the tradition but the accumulative testimonies through the ages: “today is tomorrow’s history”.
